The Year of Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope
The Holy Father has announced that 2025 will be a Jubilee Year, something which happens every 25 years. The theme for Jubilee 2025 is “Pilgrims of Hope,” and it will be a year of hope for a world suffering the impacts of war, the ongoing effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis.
What is the Jubilee?
The practice of a jubilee year has ancient roots in the Jewish tradition and evidence for it can be found in the Old Testament (for example, see Leviticus 25). The jubilee year was called every fifty years and was a time for forgiveness. It stood as a reminder of God's providence and mercy. The dedication of a year for this emphasis provided the community with a time to come back into right relationship with one another and with God. As the practice of the jubilee year was adopted into the Catholic Church, these themes of mercy, forgiveness, and solidarity continued.
Que es el Jubileo?
En la Iglesia Católica, un jubileo es un año santo, un tiempo especial de gracia concedido por el Papa, durante el cual los fieles pueden recibir indulgencias plenarias, es decir, la remisión total del castigo temporal por los pecados.
El jubileo está profundamente vinculado a la penitencia, la reconciliación y la conversión, y su celebración tiene como objetivo ayudar a los católicos a renovar su fe y acercarse más a Dios.
